Acne is a common problem – for teenagers especially, but people of all ages can suffer from it. With it being so common, many rumors have popped up over the years. Many of these acne myths have become part of our “common knowledge” even though they are not accurate.

The following are seven of the most common acne myths you will hear:

1. Cleaning Your Skin Will Help Get Rid Of Acne

A common belief is that if you keep you skin cleaner, it will help prevent acne breakouts. This isn’t the case, however.

Acne is caused by oil under the skin’s surface – not dirt on the outside. While it’s still important to keep your skin clean, cleaning more than twice a day can cause you skin to become dry. It is thought that this can even lead to worse acne problems.

2. Using Makeup To Hide Pimples Can Make Them Worse

This isn’t entirely a myth – you need to be sure you use the right kind of makeup. If you do, it won’t make your acne any worse. There are many types of makeup that are designed specifically for people with acne problems.
